Children and ChiropracticProper spinal care is important to your child's health.
New patients in a chiropractor's office, who see an infant or young child, often comment: "I didn't know you treated children! It really shouldn't be so surprising; the spine is subject to stress and strain from the very moment of birth. Birth itself is probably the first shock to the spine and nervous system that the infant receives. Think about the pressure on the infant at the time of delivery and the potential pull on the infant's head and neck even during a normal, uncomplicated birth.
As the child develops, there is the usual progression of crawling, walking, running, and other activities. Sometimes all this physical activity puts stress on the spinal nerves; this may lead to lowering a child’s resistance and open the door for many illnesses.
Many don't realize that chiropractors help decrease the severity and occurrence of many of the common childhood ailments including eczema, asthma, ear infections, and allergies.
The slightest misalignment can cause a child to suffer from adult type problems, such as headaches, back pain, poor concentration, irritability, etc. and for many, a simple, painless spinal exam will allow your Chiropractor to find, and treat if necessary any misalignment's.
Chiropractic Care for children is much more than just spinal exams. Your Chiropractor can also examine and monitor the growth of your child’s body, address important nutritional needs, offer correct exercise programs, and help to prepare your child for a healthy adulthood.
Not all conditions will respond to conservative chiropractic management and your doctor of chiropractic is fully trained to recognize when referral and/or other interventions are needed.
Some childhood conditions, such as functional scoliosis (spinal curavture), which may be corrected or reduced with chiropractic care, are too often neglected and plague the child throughout his or her lifetime. Many of your neighbors and friends have their children's spines checked by a doctor of chiropractic because it gives them confidence and reassurance.
